crawford lake

These are paintings from an artist's residence at Crawford Lake in Halton Region of Ontario, Canada. The park is gorgeous and features some ancient white cedar trees. The roots of the trees fascinated me. More paintings are to be coming soon.

I LOVE drawing. It is something I try and do everyday regardless of what I am doing. Usually I have at least two sketchbooks on the go. Life drawing is something I have kept up since my art school days. Drawing from life is so important to an artist on so many levels. All the images here are done from life, with the exception of the DaVinci image. That was a copy from the master himself.

These are images from my sketchbook. This is where I do whatever catches my fancy at the time. Some are from photos, many are from life, others are just fun ideas that I want to see where they will take me.

Drawing is the backbone of painting. I love to draw and practice almost daily. Sketchbooks fill my shelves and go back many years. It is the one place I can not worry about what the pages hold. It is like a visual diary ith no expectations.

Many things capture my interest when I am looking for something to paint. Subject is not always the king of the canvas though. Often need to let me instinct take over and creativity have free rein on the page.Fairy Trees are a good example of not being slave to the subject. I am trying to bring more of this Joie De Vive into all my work.
